Introduction:
The department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology was established in 2006 in an autonomous Institute UP RIMS &
R, Saifai, Etawah to run undergraduate teaching programme and to cater medico-legal work of the associated
hospital. Initially annual intake of undergraduate medical students was 100 and the Institute was under CSJM
University, Kanpur. Now since 2016 this Institute is converted into it’s own University UPUMS, Saifai which
comes under UP Government and the annual intake of undergraduate medical students is 200
Infrastructure:
The department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology is situated on the 3rd Floor of Academic Block
of the Medical College having all required infrastructure as NMC like faculty rooms, resident doctors rooms,
non-teaching staff rooms, demonstration rooms, full fledged Laboratory, Museum, Research Lab and Department
Library etc. The Autopsy block is situated on the 1st floor of the same building.
Service Being Offered:
The department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology is engaged in teaching, research, training, medicolegal work,
clinical Forensic Medicine services like age estimation, examination of victims and accused of physical and
sexual assault cases, expert opinion in poisoning cases and court related work. Department is providing expert
opinions in referred cases from courts and UP Police.
The department is planning to set up a modern mortuary complex to start medico-legal postmortems in UPUMS,
Saifai which will also improve the quality of teaching, research and training.
